Help with 4 colour wiring

Now my next question is, how do I add 2 extra cables to power my new ceiling light (switched) and illuminated mirror (unswitched). If you can advise me against my original photo, that would be perfect because I can then replicate that in my junction boxes.

All earths connected together.

All neutrals connected together.

Live to mirror from permanent live.

Live to new lamp from switched live.

But which terminal in the rose is which?

Earth is obvious. Permanent live is where the 3 reds join in the middle.

Switched live and neutral are the other two terminals. Most likely, the one with the blue wire is neutral and the one with the yellow wire is switched live - but I don’t think we’ve completely proved that. (Remember that although blue is today the colour for neutral, in “old colours” it was one of the 3-phase lives.) You could check this by looking at the fan connections (the fan isolator connections don’t prove anything) or by determining which of the black wires comes from the switch (that’s the switched live). Or you could just assume that the blue indicates the neutral and probably be right.

This is also one of the rare occasions where neon screwdrivers come in handy. Touch the screwdriver to both terminals with the switch on and off. The one that lights up the screwdriver when the switch is on is the switched live.

Thank you, that worked perfectly. The way I've done it is, I have the ring main coming into a J803 junction box, my mirror light and then a feed to a J804 junction box that powers the fan and ceiling light with the switched circuit.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. I truly appreciate every bit of it.

I've been busy today and just arrived on the scene, glad to see it's sorted and thanks for letting us know it's working.

Arr, I thought I'd done that in my post..

New light wires are as per the old light wires

New mirror wires are "brown in with browns/reds, blue in with the black/blue"
