Why?
When I moved into this house, every light had 3 or 4 halogen bulbs in it. I ripped them all out and fitted low energy pendants and now have super-low-energy LED downlights in the kitchen. Even the loft, under stairs and back garden are lit with low energy lights.
You can get very convincing-looking energy saving lamps, and most of my fittings hide the lamp anyway.
In my opinion, nobody should be fitting filament lamps any more, except for specialist applications such as theatres (but even here LEDs are becoming a more realistic proposition).
