Hi all,

I want to change my existing kitchen spotlights as below:

I'd like to change them for ones without transformers, maybe even GU10 fittings or even the same type which are 240v - can anyone let me know which ones I could use?

Thanks

Lee

Could I just swap these out for GU10 fittings which are double insulated and therefore if a lamp goes in future I don't have to remove the fitting but the lamp itself.

Or could buy 230v double insulated led fittings without transformers.

I've seen these. The only thing i need to ask now is that I only have live and neutral wires going to the current lights- do I just add these to this connector? Assuming the earth wire on the fitting is all that I'd needed and that I don't need to connect an earth wire too which will be a pain as I don't have one!

Of course it is not all you need; it must be connected to your installation earth.

Well, you either get one or, as you have said, find some Class 2 double insulated ones.

I’d be looking at the connection in the ceiling , assuming you can see it, to establish if there is a CPC

Pull more of the wires out of the ceiling. That white flex is part of the existing light, there must be some other connector / junction box or whatever else in the ceiling.

Sorry, life got busy and forgot about this. I've attached photos of the existing lamps and the way the wiring is done. I have looked into the below on Ebay which seem to be what o would need as they are double insulated. Would these be ok and just use the current live and neutral wires to connect to the lamp without the transformer?

No need for double insulated items, you have L,N,E wiring there, and all of those must be connected to something even if you get lights which only need L&N.

Don't buy electrical items on ebay.
The likes of Screwfix, Toolstation and many other local outlets have plenty to choose from.

I use the Integral Evofire from Toolstation. Various sizes and styles available.
Nice and easy to connect the 2 sets of wires with a maintenance free connection. Better than the terminal blocks you are using.

Paired with Wessex GU10 warm white 3.6W

I normally use this range :

Lots of options, including tilt versions and lots of different finishes etc

AND the best bit, only a customer changeable bulb to go wrong - so good for the planet too

Thanks all. I have 10 of these in my garage but not too sure of them.

Thanks to all.

So if I buy the ones from the sites you guys have mentioned is it just a case of swapping out the old fitting and transformer and fitting the light to the live and neutral fitted in the ceiling? I.e., I won't need transformers.

So far, the wiring you have shown us has been mains, 230volt. There is no sign of any transformer. I don't believe you have any transformers.

The mains wiring needs sorting out. All junctions/ terminal blocks must be inside enclosures. The suggestions in posts 9 and 10 above would appear to be the sort of thing to consider.

Thanks all.

I thought the white boxes were transformers. I'm going for these I think.
