Hi all,

First time poster here.

Now this isn't strictly DIY as we'll likely get someone in to help with this! But we were after some help can anyone help us identfy what is wrong with this patch of wall?

Looks like damp or some kind of fungus.

Also, after recently having the place repainted, this large crack has appeared below:

Any advice as to how to fix this?

Many thanks in advance![/img]

It is either a patch of damp, or the remains of a cat someone has squashed against the wall. I hope the former.

What you do about it depends on the cause.

Is it an outside wall?

The crack could be due to a number of causes (plaster drying out, settlement, etc). Is it near a window or door, or in the middle of a wall?

Just paint some cheap oil undercoat over it and see if it covers it. Ignore the crack, it's non-structural.
