Help with uneven walls after rewire and picture rail removal

Hi everyone,

I've just recently bought a house (ex-MOD quarter) which I've had rewired. Prior to this I removed the picture rail and have been left with the lower part of the wall being a couple of mm out from the top, as well as bare plaster and massive nail holes. Had hours of fun peeling off the 40 years worth of magnolia paint that was flaking off!

I filled in all of the chases myself after reading a lot of thread son this forum, just wondering if anyone has any advice for fixing this before I start saving for a plasterer!
