Help with window Surround

Hello all
My bay window has upvc windows installed inside the original wooden frame.
I have been sanding it for weeks and just. Glossed it and it looks terrible.
What options do I have for removing the original decorative frame.
Other windows in the house have upvc frames but they are massive at about.
What do you a lll reccomoend?
Should I wait for it to dry and sand again and again until it's perfect or try a not so shiny paint?
