Just changed a light unit in bedroom and after connecting the new light unit the light always stays on - flicking switch doesnt turn it off.

I was very careful to ensure i connected up the wires in the new light unit exactly the same as the old one. The only difference between the units is the new one doesnt have an earth so the main earth just connects to a block and goes nowhere.

Heres a diagram of how im connected up now. Any ideas what ive done wrong?

Just change the output to the light unit on terminal 1 to termimal 4.

Lucia.

seems to me providing that black in four is the switch live that you need to move all reds to 4 and the single black to 1 its should be sleeved to identify it is a switched live not a neutral.

Looking at that diagram I'd say that you have

1. Permanent live
2. Neutral
3. Earth
4. Switched live (should be sleeved red)

so your lamp needs to be connected across 4 & 2

cheers all.
will need to wait until tomorrow to test as light is in the kids room. will let you know how i get on tomorrow.

connecting the light across 4 and 2 worked perfectly. thanks very much everyone!
