Well I would replace them - one for one replacement for wired cartridge fuses still available. I would trust a circuit breaker before I trusted the speed at which the excess current melts the fuse wire - and more importantly the current it takes to melt it!

My son bought a Victorian house in a reasonable state of decor. After about six months he accidentally touched the electric kettle against the toaster causing a big flash and blowing the power fuse.
On investigation, we found a charred bit of cable in the first floor void. This had the earth conductor completely burnt out. On retesting the circuit, -still no earth continuity! . On removing a wall cupboard downstairs in the kitchen, and unearthing the cable from the plaster, found a terminal block with another burnt out earth. replaced all this cable. Everything tested OK. OK the earth was missing, where was the live to earth short?, why had the earth burnt out in TWO places? :confused:
