Hi all,
Just doing my research. At some point a 4M RSJ (two of them probably one per leaf) will be installed and a bi-fold put in. I'm wondering how the external brick damage and RSJ at the top is best hidden or dealt with.
I'm used to PVC windows being rebated a little is this the same with bifolds or do they install flush? Flush would make it easier to apply trim.
There will be two cuts from existing windows to the ground, so ~1M x 2 of cut bricks.
Trim?
Something like large aluminium sheet at the top the same colour as the doors going all the way across and then some 30mm sort of trip going around the sides?
Reclaim Bricks?
Mine are impossible to buy new but I'd have enough from the removal that I could carefully reclaim, clean and reuse. In my experience the mortar will not be an exact match though. Obviously this is not normal practice as it'll take forever, but it's my house and I'm staying so if it's a cleaner option I'd look at it. I already did this for opening a garage last year.
Or maybe do this for the sides and then the RSJ gets covered as bricks would need making into slips if they were to go into two RSJ's which sounds impractical.
Something else?
Tell me what I don't know!
Cheers!
Andrew
