High quality CCTV recommendations

Afternoon all
I’m after a home CCTV system with 4 or 6 outdoor cameras (prefer the dome type as think they look less intrusive) with as high a quality as possible, where if you zoom in you lose no/very little clarity.
I’ve got Ring doorbell and a spotlight cam but if you zoom in on it, it soon pixelates making number plates unreadable and even faces not that clear.

I’m happy to fit, run cables in and set it up myself - just after some recommendations on a good, high quality brand/model that maybe you experts would suggest? Not really set a budget yet, I’m guessing up to £1000 all in

I’m guessing all hard wired camera systems go back to a hard drive, this would be in one of the upstairs rooms.
Thanks all in advance and if I’ve missed any information, please ask.

Cameras should be specified for the job you want them to do.
To give an example 2 cameras and an NVR parts only cost around £800, but then again you can do it cheaper

DORI is how we work.

You need a higher resolution camera as you go down the list for the same area covered

If you have street lamps then good night time viewing can be possible even full colour without the camera having a white light option like ColorVu.

As optical and digital Zoom, digital tends to get worse as you zoom in and optical needs to focus to get a sharp image after zooming in or out.

A fixed lens is digital Zoom, cheaper than

A varifocal (non motorized) you adjust for the view manually, then digital Zoom only. Cheaper than motorized varifocal.

Motorized varifocal allows zooming optically but tends to be pants in that you can't change to look at a particular area so you may not be able to zoom into a specific area of interest cheaper than ptrz

Ptrz allows optical zooming in and movement so you can see any part optically closer, this is not a tz so won't track it also has motorized parts for occasional use not heavy use so good for setting up but probably not practical in terms of flowing and zooming into a moving object of interest.

PTZ lots of scope to move zoom in and out, but may use presets if triggered, to look at more detail, so shaving tracking and so on.

Tandem/panoramic more than one camera view.

Panoramic may be stitched together or split into multiple views, not usually zoom capable likeptz.

Tandem, fixed view and PTZ, a fixed view all the time and aptz to track.

Most domestics with a decent fixed view camera overlapping with the next camera work out more cost effective.

If you live in a small 2 bed terrace house that is straight onto road or pavement may get away with wide angle lens and 2MP, for identify, 4MP for a small bufferandsoon.

Then there is colour say night sound options etc to consider.

Viewing remotely you internet speed and what you an see maybe one important
