Hikvision DVR activation?

Hi,

I recently bought this:

I installed the hard drive and fired the unit up, all good so far. My first screen is the activation menu. I need to create a new admin password and then create a password for channel access.

Whatever I type on this screen errors with "invalid password" so I don't know whether "create new admin password" actually requires me to enter an existing password (which is what?) or what I'm doing wrong.

Any pointers appreciated.

Ignore me, I connected via a web browser and the output from the DVR is misleading at best! The web browser was asking for a new admin password that needed certain criteria.
