Hip to Gable Loft Extension on corner plot

Hi all

Thinking about a loft conversion, but need it hip to gable to create room for the stairs up. However, house is on a corner plot, angled at c45 degrees, which means i think the hip to gable extension would technically move the top of the roof forward toward the road at the front of our house. See attached picture.

Does anyone know whether or not this fits into permitted development? And if not, any experience/thoughts on whether/how i could get permission?

I was holding back hoping someone cleverer would answer.
Permitted Development is not my strong point but the rule seems to say that only a roof extension beyond the plane of the roof slope of the principal elevation that fronts the highway is not permitted development.
It looks to me that a hip to gable conversion on the side would therefore still be PD. Assuming all the other criteria are met.

This is one where applying for an LDC is definitely the way to go. I think you shopiuld be ok as you're not coming beyound the front roof plane which I would take as the PE.

Do note that as a general rule planners tend not to like loft conversions and some can be positively spiteful in trying to disallow them.

Thank you both - i think you have confirmed my thinking on the matter. Definitely LDC seems to be the way forward. I will get on with that.

Planning application fees are doubling on 1st April so I assume an LDC application fee will go up by a similar amount. Try to get the application in before than and save yourself a few quid.
