Hi everyone. In a bit of a pickle and sorry for the long post. My elderly mother in laws boiler broke down and she managed to get someone in to take out existing system which had a Seperate hot water tank.
She has had that replaced with a New Combi boiler and tank etc has been removed. She already had a hive system but it has a double channel receiver. Engineer has fitted boiler and connected it up to that. He's then left and is now working away and I can't get hold of him. I've been over and checked and the boiler is running 24hrs. In short the hive is connected but its not controlling anything.
I've read this forum and in here (https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/hive-wiring.553481/) it's suggesting that you cant /shouldn't wire up a non combi hive to a combo. I've looked on line and can see that there are two Seperate versions one for Combi one for water and heat.
Can I just replace the hive and buy a single channel receiver and change the wiring?
In short term boiler will have to be turned off and on as house will get too hot. Its not ideal as she is disabled and unit is in garage.

You could just get a single channel yes, but there may be a way to sort out existing. If it’s a new Combi, the 24v link could have been left in - if this is the case a new receiver wouldn’t solve it either.

Do you know what boiler make and model? Are you able to get a photo of the wiring?

I will get a photo of wiring later with name cheers.

When it was installed the RGI should have completed a Commissioning Checklist showing that the correct controls as required by the Building Regulations are installed. (Boiler interlock for example) This should have been signed by an left with mum in law. It also requires the operation of the controls to be explained to and understood by the customer.

I used a have for heating and how water on my boiler. HW control was not wired up. Just a loop wir from live to hw demand. CH was wired from hive to boiler CH demand. It worked fine on my Green Star 32 CDi compact.

The single channel hive is specifically designed for combi boilers in that it provide voltage free control. That means it can be used with either 24v or 230V control circuits as used by combi's. However, a dual channel hive only provides 230V control, and will work (albeit an unprofessional fudge IMHO as it will have hot water control facilities that won't be doing anything) with combi's that are wired for 230V. However, if you were to connect a dual channel hive to a 24v wired combi, the results would not be good.
