Good morning.

1st time posting here and looks like a very informative forum. Looking forward to future posts!

I have installed a hive system. Looking at the diagrams and wiring it looked very simple and straightforward, however, I have no central heating or hot water!.

My set is a Valliant eco pro boiler which is 2 years old. A Drayton control panel and an old Potterton wall thermostat.

Please see the pics of the old stuff and new. I have also tried with the wire in 1 and made no difference.

I’m hoping there is someone with knowledge that can help me out.

Regards

Alex

First of all you should have the dual channel version of the Hive.

The old wiring....

....transfers to the Hive 'like for like' the two devices are wired exactly the same.

As there was a wire in terminal (1) 'hot water off' at the original programmer, then the Hive will also need the same connection.

Because the Hive carries out the functions of the room thermostat, the old wired thermostat needs to be decommissioned to prevent it overriding the Hive. It can't simply be disconnected as this would leave the heating wiring 'open circuit' and it will not operate. The thermostat can be decommissioned in three ways, in order of professionalism, they are.

Option 1. Trace the old thermostat cable from the thermostat back to its origin. Once you have positively identified the cable, note where the live switching wires from the thermostat terminals (L) and (Heating) are connected. Then, disconnect and remove the thermostat cable, including the neutral wire, taking care not to disturb any other wires in the same terminals.

Then, link together the terminals where the two wires from thermostat (L) and (Heating) terminals have just been removed from to complete the circuit.

Option 2. Remove the existing thermostat and replace it with a junction box, connect the two ‘live’ switching wires (from L and Heating) together and isolate the neutral.

Option 3. Leave the existing room thermostat in place and join the ‘live’ switching wires together in a separate connector that you can tuck away in the corner of it.

[Some will suggest putting them together in the same terminal. Whilst this will work, because of the presence of the neutral connection, the existing thermostats accelerator device will still be connected]
