I have just fitted a Hive thermostat and two TRVs. The system works correctly with the new thermostat and standard TRVs and I have balanced the system so that demand for the boiler is removed before or more or less as the TRVs shut down. The idea of fitting the Hive TRVs was to be able to set a profile for a couple of radiators.
After several calibration periods (including occasions where it fails), they do not work properly. Sometimes they are satisfied but they don't shut down when there is other demand for heat. Worse, they sometimes demand heat while only allowing the radiator a dribble, leaving tthe boiler to simmer away for 20 minutes or more while the radiator barely gets more than 5 degrees above ambient.
I believe the idea behind calibration is to try to gradually shut the valve down before cutting off in an attempt to avoid overshoot. The characterstic clearly needs to be much sharper. Has anybody found any work rounds?
