I have had a hob installed that has been connected to the 6mm cable fed from the main cooker control panel. The 2 large hob plates switch on fine and get hot, but the 2 smaller plates do not appear to work, even though the light comes on when you switch either of them on. Any ideas - is it a fault hob?
Thanks, Larry

Get the person who installed it back to install it properly.
They may not have fitted links in the right place or if it is faulty they can remove and replace it for you.

The hob was installed by a relative. When we looked at the connections, there was an L1, L2 and L3 and all seemed to be connected together underneath. We connected the live wire to L1 assuming that this would make all three points live. I'm guessing that this is not the case, and we need to link L1, which must serve 2 of the plates with L2, which must serve the other 2 plates. The instructions are useless. What would we use to do the link?

These usually come with link plates, a picture would be nice.
You should use at least 4mm. but it depends upon the rating of the rings.
A call to the supplier or manufacturer is your best bet.
