I've just demolished a small stud wall in my living room, and it turns out the genius who built it decided, for reasons which are totally beyond me, to cut a hole through the floorboards under the wall, even though the hole didn't seem to play any part in the structure...

I'm trying to work out if there's an easy way to fill the hole, without pulling up / cutting more of the boards.

As you can see from the nails, there is a joist around 5cm back from the near side of the hole, and there's another about 20cm or so from the far side.

I'm thinking something along the lines of trying to screw a couple of battons underneath the boards and then lay a piece on top of that... but not sure if that feels a bit flakey, and I need to do something that actually joins to the joists.

Any ideas?
