I've just demolished a small stud wall in my living room, and it turns out the genius who built it decided, for reasons which are totally beyond me, to cut a hole through the floorboards under the wall, even though the hole didn't seem to play any part in the structure...

I'm trying to work out if there's an easy way to fill the hole, without pulling up / cutting more of the boards.

As you can see from the nails, there is a joist around 5cm back from the near side of the hole, and there's another about 20cm or so from the far side.

I'm thinking something along the lines of trying to screw a couple of battons underneath the boards and then lay a piece on top of that... but not sure if that feels a bit flakey, and I need to do something that actually joins to the joists.

Any ideas?

Screw 2 pieces of batton underneath running in line with the existing boards ( 2 for each board ) then screw new boards to battons

I would lift some more boards to enable a better view.
Are any rooms elsewhere in the house boarded with similar that could be borrowed without showing.
You could take a sample of the board to a reclamation yard to find similar.

Then either use boards from upstairs to fill the hole, and reclaimed to fix upstairs- whatever would look better.
You might find suitable boards in the airing cupboard or under a bath. Worth looking in the loft/cupboard under the stairs.

It would likely look better if you don’t just plug the hole as is.
Staggering the repair will look better.

Lifting the boards might be problematic. The floorboards seem to be tongue and groove.
