Hello

Wondered if anyone could help me out, please bear with me as I am pretty thick.

I have managed to puncture a hole in the main water pipe, while digging. I've plugged it up with a piece of wood for now. On the pipe is written 3/4" I can only assume this means the diameter of the inside of the pipe as I have measured it at 27mm/ 1.6" I've found a couple of items online but I'm not sure if they will fix the leak and I don't know what the right size would be.

the repair joint here( 3 up from bottom) : http://shop.access-irrigation.co.uk/acatalog/Compression.html

or the universal compression coupler here: http://www.twsplastics.co.uk/store/...-27mm-35mm-universal-compression-coupler.html

here is a picture of the pipe

Any help would be much appreciated, I have called the water board but they won't come out because it's in the garden not on the street and I was hoping to avoid plumber costs if possible.

thanks in advance

I moved the black polythene water pipe coming into the house and needed a joint for it. Mine was marked BS1972 but from memory it was the same size. Although there was one coupling for it, there was 3 different inserts for it depending on the pipe. Not sure if this applies to yours. Check this out, the inserts are only cheap so I bought all 3 knowing I could come to the job and do it.

Rather than buy online, try a good independent plumbers merchant. If they're good they'll know what you're on about.

When you cut the pipe make sure there's no burrs around the cut with a sharp knife. And like duffin says that its clean so the seals make properly.

When you bury it again try to make sure it's deep so it'll not freeze.

Thanks for all your help just hope that the wood stopper holds over the weekend :D

No grit.

Clean cuts.

Bury deep.

Thanks again -

BS 3284 will be HD-C Dark blue liner or HD-D Dark green liner.

The standard 3/4" Philmac coupler will do.

The details will be mark on the pipe

Should be ok if it fits 3/4"

Not sure I like the idea of not using an insert though

Just in case its not long enough buy two couplers and a short piece of 28mm copper and hope there is enough give in the pipe to get the fittings in.

Get a couple of the first one, you may be able to stretch the pipe a bit, and take a shorter road.
