Hi guys

Been a lurker here for a while, thought ill finally post.

I have a large 5 bedroom 1920's home with a open style loft space on the 3rd level.

The house is always cold and takes ages to heat up. I've just ordered some thermometers to confirm this but i'm suspecting all the heat is rising up into the loft.

I have thought of adding a door at the top of the stairs in the loft ( I think loft was built before fire regulations ) but i do actually like the open plan look and feel so i was thinking is there anyway to bring that heat back down again

I've toyed with the option of putting a destratrification fan at the top of the stairs or maybe a mrventy style device? ( a few ^ so could hide in there)

The house is heated by central heating, I've fitted a new boiler and oversized radiators, as well as electric underfloor heating. Planning on putting in a DEFRA wood stove to help reduce gas usage ( i have free supply of suitable wood)

Currently paying around 350pm on Gas, plus 50 on electric, only 3 people live in the house.

I don't want this to distract away from the initial question about getting the heat in the loft back down, but our house is solid wall at the front and cavity wall on most of the side and all of the back- is it worth getting it filled or will it cause more grief then it's worth with other issues?

350 per month!

What, pounds?

Spend £10k insulating the place to warmingdon and save a couple of k over the next few years as payback.

Whilst you're at it go around the house checking and sealing any draughts i.e doors, windows, skirts, etc.
