Had the above fitted to replace a corroded one in May. Am I right in thinking the new ones record usage/therms differently to old ones.

We used 57 units between Feb and March and then 0000000s from May to today, coinciding with Mediterranean weather.

I think I may have exacerbated the situation by submitting the digits both outside and within the red box.

Thanks

Old meters measured in cubic feet, modern ones use cubic metres - it will say which, on the meter, but you will be billed for the kilowatt energy of the gas, which is derived from the volume of gas used.

When submit meter readings, you only send the numbers to the left of the decimal point.

Thanks v much. In this instance I should have submitted 37, instead of 37.293. My fault, but BG app was still expecting five digits. God knows how it will affect our bill?

Ring them, and explain. Most of these apps, expect a set number of digits, my reading today is 8056, but when I submit a value it expects 008056 - a six digit reading, ignoring anything to the right of the point.

Update

You couldn’t make this up. I previously rang BG to explain I’d entered 37293, instead of 37. (New meter, not sure how to read it etc) Lady I spoke to checked and said everything looked good at her end.

Fast forward to today, when had request for another meter reading. App confirmed reading above. The new BG app has two fields to enter reading- one five digits and one four. If I enter new reading (55371) as two digits, computer says “reading too small”. If I enter in full, it says “reading too big”!

The system either remembers 37 if I enter the latest reading in full, or 37293 when I enter as two digits.

I’ve used the online pages to submit this reading, but would like to go back to using app in customary way.

I know I can ring BG, but how on earth can I explain this???

End of rant.

Thanks

Take a clear photo of the reading, including the meter MPN, email it to them, then ring them up and ask them to correct the reading.
Thanks, I wasn’t sure there was an email for this sort of thing. It does me you laugh though. A perfect storm of new meter and reading coinciding, and the glitch will never be sorted.
