I welcome the fact that my boiler fires up if the temperature drops below 5 degree but I don't understand why it has to heat up to 21 degrees! How can I reduce this setting so it still comes on but only to say 15 degrees instead?
Mant thanks (a very hot Ricey!!!)

Maybe there is no pipe stat?
And during the cold weather the frost thermostat is keeping the boiler on 24-7? Therefore bringing the house temp up to 21 degrees??

Pipe stats? What are these please? Rads are all on five I.e max temperature. does this help you to help me? Thanks Ricey

Its a small (probably white) box clamped onto the pipework in the garage with a cable dangling from it

Thanks Londonboy will go and investigate. Probably over the weekend so will come back to the Forum in a couple of days. Cheers Ricey

Hi there, nothing that meets this description. Out in the garage there is the external thermostat which is set to come on if temperate out there reaches 5 degrees or less. There is a dial with that which goes up to 30 but I can't see there is anything within this devise to put a limit on the inside temperature when the heating is triggered. So I think that is just simply a dial to use to set your minimum temperature from which you want the boiler to fire up and start heating.

So this means that the control for the internal temperature can only be within the usual thermostat devise indoors, but I am still struggling to find out how to limit the temperature once the heating kicks in automatically. There is no problem if I am setting my own programme to heat the house and can easily change the maximum temperature but there must be some hidden setting which means that if the heating is triggered by the external thermostat then it heats to maximum within the house?

Any further ideas?

Thanks Ricey

frost thermostat - on the wall

pipe thermostat - on the return pipe to the boiler

is the thermostat with the dial that goes to 30 on the pipe or on the wall?

once the frost stat kicks in it's the pipe thermostat that stops it getting too hot, normally set to around 30 degrees so the boiler only takes the chill off itself and doesn't get the house hot.

if there's no pipe thermostat or it's faulty your house can get very toasty as the frost thermostat will be running the boiler until it gets up to temperature but it simply can't reach it, so the pipe thermostat will turn the boiler off for you before the house gets hot.
