Honeywell galaxy g2 replace contact sensor

Hi,

I have a faulty contact sensor, it keeps throwing RF fault. After some diagnosis I think the sensor is faulty. So I order a replacement.
The sensor is for the main door. I don't know much about alarm systems but I am good at following clear instructions. I have the engineer code.
Please can someone help me. I am sorry if this already answered before. I tried to search for the answer before posting this question.

You enter engineering mode and menu 52. Use 'A' or 'B' keys to step to the zone that the sensor is programmed to. Select the RF options and the serial number. Use the 'B' key to delete the old serial number. Now you get the option to press '*' to trigger the new sensor to populate the new serial number. If you trigger the sensors tamper by opening its cover, then it will register.

Thank you GalaxyGuy. Do you know if DODT8M is compatible? I bought a D08M from eBay but received DODT8M. I can't seem to get it to force a tamper.

Yes, it is. You may need to close a tamper loop in the sensor if it has external tamper connection. The DODT8M only has a single zone covering both the built-in and the external contact option. Isn't the LED on the sensor flashing when you activate the tamper switch ?

The led is lighting up. I am trying to use it as wireless. The loop is there on the external tamper. I don't know what is the difference between ext and int, there is a jumper on the ext, I tried to switch it to int didn't make a difference.

The sensor can do internal, external or both. The internal is a reed switch (glass bubble with leaf spring contacts in it) in the sensor activated by a magnet in close proximity to the reed. The external is screw terminals where you add a wire and have an external contact and magnet. Think of it being used for something like two opening windows with the sensor and magnet on one, then an external contact (basically a switch) on the other. The DODT8M is also used in ext mode when connecting to something like a heavy duty garage door / roller door magnetic contact. Turning the roller door contact into a wireless contact.

Ok thank you for the explanation. The ext or int won't impact the tamper.
Maybe a faulty sensor, it is not communicating with the system. I tried a different battery!

Try it with INT setting and closing the tamper by hand and placing the magnet next to the glass reed - some devices also register in normal working mode. If the LED is lighting on and off when tampering or placing the magnet next to the reed, then it will likely be transmitting.

You didn't say in the original post which panel version and RF portal you have. Are you sure you have a C079 ?

How do I find out? I know it is galaxy 2-20

With the G2, you can only see the panel version from the menu. Menu 23 will show the panel version. Unfortunately, the only way to see which portal version when connected to the G2 is from the portal PCB itself.

I think, I will return it and try to find a D08M. I tested with a magnet and yes the led goes on.

That's the C079, albeit older as the last version was 1.08. What is the panel version, as the device compatibility note has: New sensors as: FG8M, DT8M, DTPI8M, DET8M, SHK8M, SHKC8M, SHKC8M2 and DF8M are only compatible with Galaxy 2-xx from rev 1,5x and above.
