i've just looked onder the cover over the boiler, with the power off, (ideal logic combi), and there are no other buttons. It just the dials on the front.

Don't touch the boiler, only the knobs on the front.

Remember the colour so you can put it back later and put B in with A then

Certainly sounds as though the sensor is goosed.

Are people aware that you can buy the room unit only CMS927B1049 rather than the whole pack inc BDR?

The only other thing that sometimes works, though I don't think it will in this case, is take the batteries out for a while (30 mins) and replace, this effectively 'reboots' the unit if it's a software issue, but as I say, this sounds like a sensor gone west.
 
have you solved the issue? I have a similar problem; my CM927 shows room temperature is -24, so heating works non-stop.
