My Hoover VL81 has again started leaving a continuous horizontal line of dust when I am vacuuming. I changed the base plate about five years back for the same reason which fixed the problem. There is a rubber rear strip and a front plastic strip with gaps, which creates a negative pressure seal. I am wondering if there is any way to bodge this with a long piece of rubber / foam adhesive? Hoover have increased the price of the part by £21 so I thought I would give it a try first. I presume it is the rear rubber strip that is the issue and not the front one.
