Hopefully simple, but need to turn off a 'tap'

Hi,

I need to be able to turn off a 'tap' - might not be called that though!

Any suggestions - probably simple, but I'm not an expert in these matters.

The small square nut at bottom turns anticlockwise in the position, and will shut it off.

Edit: you may need to push it back up if it's dropped down off the thread.

Technically called a 'Drain off'. Assume then you didn't open it!

This guy is demolishing something and cannot turn a tap off. Good grief he must be a "tradesman."
