Horizontal safe zone with 'dry lining' back boxes

The automative and towing communities have no problems, Try googling for images of trailer plug, then trailer socket.
Maybe, but perhaps it works for those items because they don't have (at least,I haven't seen) any chassis-mounted 'plugs' - as I said, the concept of a 'fixed' (chassis-/panel-mounted) 'plug' would seem very odd (at least, to me) - since 'a plug' is something that one 'plugs into' something else.
Also IEC plug, then IEC socket. There are wide selections of names including, but probably not limited to: inlet, outlet, male, female, plug, socket
Quite so!

Yes, but he only needed a couple of days or so of memory in this case, since he was responding to (and quoting) a message I posted in tis thread - so, as I said, although he claimed that he "had not read the thread", he must have read some of it :)
Actually I was responding to one from a number of years back - I never read about your wife in this thread.

I genuinely hadn't (and still haven't) read the overwhelming majority of this thread.

I'm a bit confused. If you were responding to a message I posted "a number of years back", why did you quote my message which I posted last Saturday? ...

.... that quote being of what I had recently written ....

I quoted one message - not any other message. I didn't read every message before or after the one which caught my eye. I have better things to do than read every message on a thread. Having me even skim-read a message is an honour in itself.

When (quite late in life) I started thinking about the "I before E...." that had been drummed into us) it seemed that there might well be moire exceptions to, rather than conformities with, that 'rule' :)

I believe that there definitely are.

How to endear a child to their teacher:

Before the child starts school, train them to ask the teacher, when presented with 'I before E except after C', "Miss, how much weight should we give to that rule?"

If we want to digress into evolution, as some people do, 'ceiling' used to be spelled 'cieling' as it comes from the French word for 'sky'.

I believe my original description still applies, I accept that some of the pins are of a male design and some appear to be famale as they are hollow and go over the mating part, but the left has distinct pins sticking out whereas the metal parts are enclosed in the right.

So if it wears a sheath it's female?

And in this advert it's correctly described as Male to Male in my opinion

It's male-to-male, but then that makes it very questionable if it's an extension cable, because whatever service is offered by whatever it plugs into, that is not extended to the other end of the cable, i.e you can't plug into the free end what you can plug into whatever the plugged-in end is in.

Ignoring the safety aspects, a widowmaker cable would never be described as an extension, would it?

I quoted one message - not any other message.
You did. I must have made the mistake of assuming that, like everyone else would do, you were quoting from the message to which you were responding. However, that can't have been the case, given that you quoted a message I posted about a week ago, but now say that you were actually responding an (unspecified) message that I posted "a number of years ago" :-)
