Why does the water, fed from plastic pipes, taste so bad!

We are working at a house at the mo' and the water straight from the tap tastes... well... like plastic. It does not matter if you run it for ages, but it certainly helps.

The customer said she had the place re-plumbed and since then the water has tasted horrid. She said the piping was white and stored in her garage in a large plastic bound roll.

Surely this is a manufacturer issue? I mean, prior to getting to the domestic supply, all water is delivered via plastic these days anyhow.

Never known a taste issue when it is fed through lead though. 8)

Lead gives it a sweet taste. The Romans liked their food cooked in lead saucepans. Sent them loopy in the end. :D

It's probably the extrusion agents used in the manufacture. Lead pipe is generally OK in hard water areas, but leaches in soft water areas.

I would probably say that a flush with a suitable chemical would be in order. What that is I don't konw.

to flush that opens a can of --leaches--or worms  it would have to be disconnected from the mains etc.etc.. Probably easier to put a drinking water filter on and a 3 way tap - H+C + potable  Franke make them as do others.

Lead would never be used to cook with, it's not suitable. Iron or bronze would have been used as it was available and has the desired qualities for cooking.

Indeed, That is why we never had a Lead Age- only a Bronze Age and an Iron Age and then in the 60`s the Age of the Iron (hoof)

You probably did know at some point, but the lead has damaged your brain and given you poor memory.
Poor memory can be a result of lead poisoning, you just forget a lot of things, this can be caused by lead waterpipes. If you drink water supplied by a lead mains, you could suffer memory loss, and forget things you have said only moments ago, it can cause memory loss and you start repeating yourself.
I think we have lead pipes, or used to have anyway, can't remember.

You are all talking absolute rubbish, unfortunately the reason why escapes me.

Oh go on, think of one, let us know why please.

I am dying to know, I was thinking of using some plastic pipes but this thread is putting me off.

Perhaps while the pipe was in the garage it got some mould in it & thats still in the lining?
