my dads water heater switch is faulty its a horstmann economy 7 quartz
which to replace is 60 quid can i buy a cheaper switch and replace it or do i have to replace like for like

It's much easier to buy the same one again, because you don't have to remove the backplate or any wiring.

The Horstmann Quartz is expensive, but very reliable.

I would go for the direct replacement- you can get these ones slightly cheaper.

Go for the totally mechanical ones (the ones without the digital display). They are easier to work and more reliable.

You get what you pay for.

When I replace the E7 type I usually find they have been in for over 15 years.

You may save a few quid by going for an alternative, but it will all end in tears.
