Hi Everyone,
I am thinking the bulge in the pictures is likely a leak in the copper cylinder itself, that is now forcing the insulation to bulge.
Anyone got a nicer explanation not involving a new cylinder?
Current one is about 20 years old.
Thanks.
oops! images didnt load

Since you asked, the most optimistic nicer explanation would be your cylinder is having a baby, therefore you can fit that one at no cost and trade the old one in for scrap/beer money(y)

Never seen that before! If it was leaking, there wouI would expect watrer to leak at the bottom Are those 2 pics of the same bulge - or are there 2? One seems higher than the other, but maybe perspective.

Personally, if that is a leak, then I would say to be worried. If it pops (the leak, not the baby :) ), there will be a bit of a dam problem :)

I suggest getting a plumber in to look. If it was me, I would get hoses in position, check drain and isolation valves are working (turn of feed), plastic and dust sheets down, and buckets at the ready. And then carefully skewer the foam. That is to say, a controlled release rather than a burst when n it expected,or, worse, when no one is present.

Others may have seen this phenomena, and have a different take

Thanks for the replies guys!
Long time since the waters broke and the result was indeed a baby...

My plan is to let the girls have their bath just now.
Drain down and in morning I will strip insulation to see if its just a pinhole.
Hopefully it will be that so then off to Toolstation for Plumbers Epoxy Aqua Repair
https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p59360
for a temporary fix.

Anyone see a problem with that -or have a better epoxy to recommend? - Strangely Screwfix dont seem to have this - B&Q have the Evo stick version.

My plumber says leaks like that are usually caused by spring water. I guess being more corrosive than mains water.

Thanks Again!

GAS112 wins the prize - It was just the foam insulation that has bubbled out from the cylinder! No leak.
Guess that's what they call a False Pregnancy.
Cheers.

quite common seen it countless times over the years , even seen the entire lagging detach
