hot rads, no hot water

A friend is having problems with his hot water. The rads heat up, but no hot water from the tank.

He has a water tank, he says hot water goes upto the gate valve on the hot water pipe to the tank. But beyond the valve, the water is cold. Now he has tried turning this etc but its made no difference.

Anyone know what could be the cause? He says the problem started after they had plumbers in a few months back to fix a leak.

Gate valves are known to break inside ...usually shut then the head just turns....

ah i see, had no idea they are that flimsy!! Will try changing it and see what it does.
