Good afternoon, I have a Gloworm spacesaver 50(it will be 30 Years old next month), I appreciate that this is an old boiler but it does work, I am not sure why but I get my heating on and it works fine but I get no hot water at all. The inlet pipe to the storage cylinder gets hot but the actual cylinder does not. Any ideas?

cylinder coil maybe airlocked.

is the hw gravity fed or pumped ?
has it a bleed valve on the cylinder coil flow pipe at the highest point ?

thanks for the tips, the pup appears to be working and I have located what i believe are the inlet and outlet for the central heating which I believe runs through the coil, I have bled both these valves but still no hot water.

what type of system is it ?
have you one of these ?

or two of these

after your pump.

i have a 3 way valve after pump, one inlet, one pipe to heating, one to hot water(it says it on the top). I do not know what kind of system this makes it. there is a slider on the side of the box, i have put it to each end and in the middle still no hot water.

so when you call for HW the flow pipe into the valve (Port AB) gets hot and then the pipe going into the cylinder (from Port B of the valve) also gets hot but the return from the clylinder does not?

yes that certainly appears to be the way it is. I am no expert but following the instructions on top of the 3 way valve this would appear to be the case. The pipe does not appear to get warm from heat conduction it seems to get hot from water passing through it.

is the return out of the bottom of the coil cold ?
thats the pipe below the inlet pipe to the cylinder.

I have pump set on 3, whatever that means and the inlet for the hw and the return are at the top. The hot water (lead pipe) is from the top to.

half way up is the flow from the 3 port valve.
below that is the return from the 3 port valve

the pipe out of the centre at the very top is the dhw supply to taps.

one at the vey bottom with a drainc*ck on is the feed from the loft cws.

There are operational pipes half way up, three are two capped off holes. The only pipes are at the top two 15 mm copper pipes and what looks linch inch lead pipe. There appears to be lead inlet pipe at the bottom also.
