Hot Water Tank

Currently noticed a drip coming from the hot water tank. Seems to be coming from the top of the hot water tank and not from the top section of the tank itself. Please see photos below - can't think why this is happening. Would appreciate any help/point in the right direction.

Can't tell where the first image is in comparison to the second one. Need better photos I think.

P.S. I hope you don't use that electric immersion heater with no cover on like that!

The immersion heater is covered but due to the leak I've taken everything down and taken apart to get to it.

The leak is coming from inbetween the top and bottom tanks. The gap in the photo where the leak is coming from shows the channel running between the two tanks.

I have seen those type of tanks split at the seam where you describe .
