I note in the USA they use a hot feed, in the UK normally cold only, we were always taught washing with cold first, removes things like egg, before the hot water makes it go solid. And the dishwasher uses so little water, it would not get hot water anyway, as you need to run off too much cold for hot to reach dishwasher.
I assume in the USA they circulate the DHW so always hot at the taps? That is done with hotels and guest houses, but means all the DHW pipes need to be lagged, and plumbed in a ring, with a pump, so in the main in our homes, we just run the tap until hot water arrives, so rather pointless having a hot water fill on a dishwasher. Yes, DHW heated by gas is cheaper than heating by electric if, and only if, heating a lot of hot water each time you turn on the boiler, otherwise electric is cheaper, due to losses heating up the boiler each time.
Combination boilers save space, doing away with the storage tank, but cost more to run, due to heating the boiler and heat exchanger even for just a cup full of hot water. Yes, gas cheaper than electric, but not that much cheaper to be worth wasting both water and gas, heating up the boiler each time. Only when filling a bath does the combi boiler work out cheaper, if you have the time to spare waiting for it to fill.
