Hi There,

We have a Hotpoint Aquarius which has started to trip the house electrics.

It crackled and there was a bang and the electrics tripped off. At this point it was turned on.

When I have tested it out since it now trips the elecs as soon as you plug it in regardless of being turned on or not!!

There are also three melted grooves in the back of the machine (in the black heat coating) where the plug wire has pressed into it and left the indentation. Not sure whether this is connected?

Is there anything we can do?

Thanks

Quite a lot of stripping down to do but if you can get the right hand side panel off you should be able to see the mains filter. (Capacitor). The mains cable enters the machine and goes to this, see if it's burnt out.

Yep, they're not overly expensive. As a quick test, unplug the machine, disconnect it and bypass it. Join the two lives together, two neutrals together and if they go through the filter, the two earths together. Insulate them and try the machine. If it still trips you'll need to megger the machine, disonnecting various parts until you locate the faulty component(s).
