Hotpoint WMA64 Ultima

My WMA 64 washing machine is 4 years old.
The problem I have are:

Machine makes a loud banging noise during spinning.
The drum does not turn. So opened top and first found that the top counterweight block was loose ( 4 bolts loose) - tightened.
Tried in spin programme - sounds like pump comes on but no drum rotation .
Have not tried in rinse or wash mode yet in case it fills with water.
Wife tells me it did not spin on last wash before fault reported to me

I am an electronics engineer with a PHD but not in washing machines.
Can carry out any electrical mesurements, remove and even fix board if chips are OK
So high level technical help no problem.

As in the 'clicky', no spin is likely to be worn motor brushes.
