Hi all,
just erected my conservatory and now ready for boarding and plastering all walls. I did not put a cavity wall tray in the house wall before i put up the conservatory.
I was just thinking, would it help to stop damp coming through from the house exterior wall into the conservatory, if i batten the house wall with 25mm timber, then use moisture resistant plasterboard before i skim it, this way there will be a void between wall and board.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
cheers

Has no one ever come accross this is, or anyone that has skimmed the outside wall that joins the conservatory, wot have you done?

Has there been damp patching appearing after a year or two

why is there moisture coming through?? surely you want to cure that rather than hide it until it gets bad enough to rear it's ugly head?

hi john, thanks for your reply.

At present there is no moisture on the wall, but i was thinking as this was a exterior wall of the house, and is now a interior wall of the conservatory, will damp not come down through the bricks onto new plasterboard that i am about to put up.

For that to happen it would mean that the outer covering of your house is very porous, is it? bear in mind that if the wall had been at the elements for a long time and then you built a conservatory over it, therefore keeping it dry then it would have taken a long time to dry out.

no the wall was rendered previously, so below the conservatory roof now i have knocked all the render off as some of it was blown anyway and i have left the render above the conservatory roof on as didnt want to render it all again and it all seemed ok

thanks for your comments

Think i mite just batten the wall as posted above and use foil backed board
