We are just having a full house rewire on a house we bought 2 months ago. There is an old style thermostat in the lounge (which also has a working open fireplace) and I would like to change it for something more modern.

Should we move the position during rewire? Other side of current wall position would place it in hallway.

What new thermostat is best? I'd prefer not to have wireless unless there is a REALLY good reason to over wired.

We have Hive central heating control and can control our heating from our smartphones (or any internet for that matter). Very handy for us since we come and go at different times of day regularly. It's wireless thermostat is fitted into the old electric backbox for the previous hall thermostat, but it could be fitted anywhere really, or moved around (obviously it's meant to be fitted to a backbox tho). Maybe worth considering.
