Hi all

Just had a monobloc tap delivered and all others I have fitted in the past have had the part where the tails join it exposed.

One this tap they are recessed 2” into the tap!

How am I supposed to tighten them adequately?

I have no tool that fits in there to get to the nuts with one off. There is zero space when the second one is fitted.

Any help please?

Thanks

I think they're only meant to be hand tight. A bit scary as I had one like that recently but it all seems to be OK. They should say in the book though what's recommended.

Screw them in hand tight only.
A little water on the O rings to lubricate before fitting too.

Thanks.

I’ll have 15mm copper pipe to connect to so looking to get some 15mm flat faced isolation valves to connect the other end.

Is that correct?

No idea what's on the other end of the flexi hoses ,is it 1/2 inch BSP female nut and rubber washer ?

Or use these https://www.toolstation.com/tap-tail-adaptors/p14081 into compression fittings (available in 1/2 and 3/8 inch sizes and from all good plumbing merchants).

3/8 is common on 'continental' makes (Grohe for instance), but is a smaller nut. 1/2, of course, is the same thread as 15mm compression fittings so if you have any to hand you can compare the size.

They look like the normal 1/2” open ended female with a rubber washer.

I’m just really concerned that the only way to tighten the tails in the tap end is by twisting the flexible braided part.

I’m afraid they will come loose over time or even when fitted.

What a poor design!

I just found a standard 15mm isolation valve and the other end fits perfectly.

So it looks like I just need to purchase flat faced ones. Screwfix don’t seem to stick them?

Rodders53 posted above tap tail adaptors, which are great. You just fit them into your isolation valve ,you need a nut and olive of course to fit them.
Your Flexi then screws onto them. You need the half inch size.
Screwing into the taps base by hand is fine ,done loads of them ,don't overdo it and twist the Flexi.

The O-ring sits inside a cylindrical part of the tap, and doesn't need to be tight to seal. When the other end of the hose is fitted that stops it unscrewing.

There is no means of isolation on the twin taps I have on the old taps so I need valves.

I’m replacing the whole basin/pedestal and witching from twin old taps to a mono.

I’m also doing the x2 bath taps and hopefully changing them to a modern twin single unit.
I’ve been googling and I can only do it if the existing taps are spaced at 180mm centres.
Is this correct?

If not I’ll have to get x2 modern taps but think they might need to be 3/4” ??

Thanks for the replies. Those adapters are brilliant and will be handy in the future!

Bath tap holes centres are 180mm ,pretty standard.
Bath taps threaded tails are indeed 3/4inch BSP threads, again standard.

Don't use Flexi
I used solid cooper pipe on mine. Easy to tighten as done by hand.
Check sizes as might not be 12mm

Like these

Why can’t use flexi on bath?
It would make it SO much easier to fit.

Managed to rip out old toilet/basin/flooring today and fitted new.
Flooring was the hardest part tbh!

Toilet is in but basin is not.

Do I just need to extend the 32mm waste with length of it and two couplers?

If so I will have to purchase 3m and only need 6” approx. Lol

What’s my the best way?

Thanks
