Hi

In the images below, how are these nice ceilings created? What what I need to do to get this effect as part of our house renovation (ceiling and walls have not yet been plasterboarded)?

Also, what kind of material is on the centre wall of the second picture?

Not sure about the ceilings but the wall looks like leather cushioning, they have them fitted in our missus' hair salon.

As above for the cushioned leather - you can probably source them from shopfitting suppliers.

The recess in the ceiling is known as "A recessed Ceiling".
The trick is in the framing that takes place before any plasterboard is hung.
Quite extensive framing is used to get a secure design - but you can vary the recess enormously esp. using stepped and crown mouldings & concealed strip lighting for startling effects.
Typically, deep recessed ceilings are framed in loft spaces of single story units. In fact, its almost always the case.

The remainder of the flat ceiling surfaces are skimmed or taped plasterboard.

All the way with Wayne & Colleen - however, they do make an effect.
The "architectural" ceilings eg. recessed or cathedral etc. can also consume enormous amounts of timber.

Is that a deliberate capital A or grammatically capitalised? If the former, are the different categories of recessed ceilings?

How expensive is it to do something like this and why is it the case that no plasterboard ceilings must be installed first?

Horrendous chintz, loadsamoney - zero taste. I prefer 21 century baroque myself.

A ceiling like that is created with timber boxing i.e. false ceiling an up-lighting pelmet/cornice.

Reminds me of that padded cell.............................

I would not like having the steps in the bedroom above or the reduced head room due to the raised floor.

eye143,
To explain how to frame such a ceiling would be too much for me on here. But it is necessary to frame before boarding.

Note that you are raising the ceiling in the recess not dropping it.
If you were to attempt to drop the remainder of the ceiling - the flat area in your photo - then you would typically lose the required floor to ceiling height, & in some cases, come down over any high window opening.

I'm sure that somewhere on google or youtube there will be diagrams of various arrangements. I have seen several kinds of such ceilings being built - & given the right site conditions, it all depends on your imagination.
