We’re thinking about improving the layout of our home and want to make better use of the available space. We’re particularly looking at how to arrange the living area, kitchen and bedrooms so the house feels comfortable without making the rooms feel crowded.

For those who have planned or redesigned their home, what are the main things you considered when creating your floor plan?

Any tips on room sizes, furniture placement or improving the flow between rooms would be really helpful.

Probably posted in the wrong forum; this forum is for announcements about the DIYnot website. You’d get more traction elsewhere, I think

We designed our house to have a circular path (two actually) that the kids use to run/ride in circles - every downstairs room has two doors

Upstairs, the hall finishes in doors at 45 degrees to minimise the amount of 90 degree turns needed for the end rooms. An excessive number of turns makes things feel more cramped/rabbit warren

Perhaps wall mounting the beds so the floor space underneath remains usable and keep a close eye on how much kid crap you accumulate - be aggressive with putting stuff to charity

Post your existing floor plans
