How can I remove the indice from my old Heritage bathroom tap?

Apologies for my newbie question - I'm no plumber. We have some traditional style Heritage Bathroom taps in our sink, marked Heritage Bathrooms 1924 (see pic below). The cold tap had been taking more and more turns to switch on / off over the last few weeks, and then started pouring out all the time regardless of where the tap was set (fully open or fully closed).

I managed to isolate it from the mains supply by closing the valve underneath to stop the flow. However, my next step - removing the 'indice' to allow me to find, turn and remove the next screw was
completely unsuccessful. From looking online it sounds like different models are either threaded, or should just be popped out - but neither approach seems to be working for me. I can't find any kind of opening, and the indice itself seems perfectly round. When I've tried to pop out the white central dial, it isn't moving but I'm starting to damage the metal surround.

Can anyone tell me what I should try next?

The indice is held in place by the chrome bezel around it ,which unscrews off. It's likely held in tight by limescale. Try heating around it to cause expansion. Very hot water poured over it may do the job

It looks to be threaded, if you cant persuade it off, time for new taps

it looks to me like the screw-off ring has cutouts for a C-spanner. Unless you know a cycle mechanic these are quite rare. Waterpump pliers might do it, but put elastoplast strapping on first to reduce scratching of the chrome.

If you get the tap apart, silicone grease will help protect against future seizing.

As you can turn the tap several turns it's a washed type tap.
You need a spanner on tap head just above spout remove the whole thing re washer as needed.
Heritage bathrooms are now owned by Bristan spares should be available

Hi, I removed mine by removing the whole tap along with the cartridge to begin with, but I think my final technique would have worked with the tap still on. But basically these indices are screw in, so I covered the edges with fabric sticking plaster and took a pair of pliers to it and it came off easily.
