I need to fit a heavy glass shelf with a ceramic basin on the wall that seperates my house from next door. I need a fairly deep hole I guess but don't want to go through into next door! I live in a Victorian terraced house, 3 up 3 down buit circa 1899. How thick generally are walls and how deep would you suggest I can drill the hole?

Party walls normaly have 2 leafs ( wall of bricks ) and sometimes there's a gap between the 2, so that would give plenty of room for what you need.
9-10" before you'll be able to see them in bed,
a few more " if there's a gap between the 2 leafs.
