how deep can i sink a cable or pipe into a concrete block

What is the maxium depth that you can chase a cable or pipe into a concrete block.

I want to run a plastic 22mm pipe behind plaster board, and also cover the elbow joint, behind plaster board.

I have been told that you can go half the depth of the block.

1/3 total thickness for vertical chase, 1/6 for horizontal chase.
