Running an armoured cable from consumer unit in the house to a shed to provide power. Two questions.
1. How deep does the cable need to be buried?
2. What's the best way of making a deep channel whilst minimising the damage to a lawn?

2, mini jcb, no i am not joking (other brands of back hoe diggers are avaiable)

450mm.

No doubt someone can post a diagram of how you back fill the hole, but you need warning tape etc...

As securespark has said 450mm as a minimum (told by an old seb boy it's wellyboot depth), bottom of trench put a bed of sand (fills any dips in trench base) then snake the swa along the trench (puts slack into swa & saves it getting pulled taught ) Then backfill to 100mm below surface, lay warning tape now finish backfilling.

minimising damage to the lawn:

carefully cut up THICK turfs and move them to one side. Then do the deep digging and use a sheet or something to put the soil on.

and rememeber to heavilly compress the soil when backfilling or the strip of lawn you opened up will sink.
