Does anybody know of an easy way of calculating what lintel size i need for openings in gable ends.

I can't make head not tail of the calculations on the internet that I've found so far!

215mm solid wall, 1800mm opening for french doors.

Single storey, two storey, 3 storey?? Without knowing what's above the lintel no one can work out what you'd need.

A clear span of 1.8m is not exactly going to test the load capacity of most standard duty lintels.

However there may be unusual loadings, or point loads or even a construction arrangement that allows the masonry above to impart a greater load than normal, i.e. brickwork that is not self-arching.

Typically one would use a standard 140mm (deep) box with an outer lip or leg.
