How do you make silicone sealant shaping sticks from wood?

Been having a go at making my own silicone sealant shaping tools but not having much luck as you can see here. The pros make it look so easy. I keep getting concave shape, and the wood seems really tough. I bought 12 x 12mm pine from "The Range" and soaked in water for min 20mins. Am using the most expensive and sharpest stanley knife blades.

I'm at a loss:
 
Why not just buy a set? Personally use a clone of the Cramer Fugi ones, and not averse to taking a new Stanley blade to them to reshape them if I need

Thanks but two reasons. Been there, done that. Tools are too small and short for some tasks and wear out too quick, and secondly trying to avoid the silicone/plastic waste. Really would like to learn this technique. Ironically I'm pretty good at actually shaping the silicone. I just can't make the stick!
