How do you tile the walls around the bath once it is fitted?

1) Many people here advise to fit the bath first and then tile the walls around it. How do you protect the bath? I am going to tile floor to ceiling and even if I step in the bath there is no way to reach to the ceiling. Do you mean that I have to put a stepping ladder in the bath?

2) Where do you buy 25mm WBP plywood? I just checked Wickes and B&Q web sites, they have 18mm at most. Shall I just call local timber yards or there are some specialist suppliers. I'll need 2 sheets probably, the bathroom floor is 2.10 x 1.80m with rotten floorboards.

3) Thank you for the web site, I am not British and you use different methods here in UK, the structure of the buildings is totally different from what I know. So you can imagine I had hundreds of questions and found answers here to most of them. Thanks a lot!!!

Always best to fit the bath first then tile the walls. To protect the bath, use plenty of sheets/covers etc, and that's even more important if you have to use step ladders in the bath to reach the top of the wall.

Your local timber merchants would probably be the best place to get good quality WBP plywood. As you said, get rid of rotten floorboards.

Roughcaster.

instead of putting the ladder in the bath i use a plank of wood across the top and if i need that little bit of extra height i sit 2 planks side by side and put a milk crate on top.

are you laurel or hardy? ;)

i would do it the easy way :D ;)
tile the wall before you put the bath in stopping 3/4 of a tile above the bath

install the bath finnish tilling

if its plastic 3/4 full of water before siliconing

big-all, that is exactly what I am going to do, thank you!

if you are going to put the bath in afterwards personally would tile all the way leaving no space at all, reason being in a cpl years when your good lady / significant other decides the suite needs changing but the walls are still ok, you can do what you like in moving things about and not worry about the gaps.

i just saying if the bath isnt there rather than leave any gaps on the wall do the lot.
