Hi all, we've got one of those big Admiral top loader washing machines and the drainage pipes have gone awry following a coming apart of some external plastic piping

Can someone advise how high off the floor the drain hose has to go before it empties into the down pipe - I know this is a bit critical for the machine to work ok and have got a feeling I've got it too high and can't find the original install leaflet.

or putting it more simply, how high off the floor in relation to the top of the machine ie below top of machine, level with top or above top and by how much etc...

many thanks in advance

as a pure guess an inch above the maximum internal water level !!!!!

lol, I'm sure thats an educated one :D

so will 12 " above max water level cause a problem?

no.

if its at the water levle or lower it can cause syphoning, which at rinse time means your m/c will never stop because its always filling.

seems thats the crucial answer I'm after - ta Breezer and to Big all as well :D

all good now :D Set the hose outlet at about 9" above mak water height and it works fine.

As a matter of interest, if anyone is thinking about one of these big American washers - we've had ours must be about 8 years now. Apart from a recently worn bearing affecting the drum - no problems at all. Takes masses of clothes in one go and is a joy to use.

We also have the matching tumble dryer that is also about 8 years old. Again, never gone wrong. Again, it takes tons of clothes in one go and dries them perfectly. Needs to be wired direct to fusebox (like cooker) and needs vent through outside wall.

Cost of both machines 8 years ago - around £950.00 as a package.
