How is Economy 7 metered these days?

I've been asked to rip out nightstorage and replace with wet heating. Anyhow it's a single electronic meter, no white one. Customer says you press a blue button to see how much cheap rate or normal rate has been used.

Do they need to contact supplier or is the normal day time rate no different anyway?

it varies depending on the supplier, afaict the bulk day rate is generally the same but you either pay more standing charges or more initial day rate.
